Dafydd Weightman on location with the Sony Alpha shooting in North Wales — Mona Digital.

Mona Digital is a bilingual Welsh/English creative media studio based in Llangefni, Anglesey, North Wales. Founded in 2021 by Dafydd Weightman — a Welsh first-language videographer, photographer and CAA-licensed drone operator with 5+ years of broadcast crew experience across BBC, Channel 4 and S4C productions. We produce video, photography, drone footage and social media content for businesses, public sector organisations and creative projects across North Wales and the North West of England.

what we do.

Mona Digital produces video, photography, drone footage and social media content for clients across North Wales and the North West. Our work spans corporate case study films, brand campaigns, public sector productions, weddings, property visuals, fitness content and ongoing social media management.

Every project is delivered bilingually in Welsh and English as standard — not as a translation step bolted on at the end, but built into the brief from day one. Specialist work runs through four sub-brands: Stori for weddings, Hafn for property, Core for fitness and Boost for social media management.

how we work.

Most creative practices in this region operate one of two ways: a sole trader who shoots and edits, or a larger agency built around juniors and account managers. Mona Digital sits in a different place.

Brief to delivery, the same hands stay on the project — strategy, shoot, edit, output. No account-manager layer between you and the work. No junior team learning on your budget. That continuity is what gives the studio its consistency, and it’s why every project compounds: each one informs the next.

We also take outcomes seriously. We don’t make content and walk away. For social campaigns, we’ll talk you through how to use what we’ve made — what to post, when, and what’s actually likely to grow your audience. The production is one half of it; what you do with it matters just as much.

the bilingual difference.

Welsh is our founder’s first language. That’s not a footnote — it’s a genuine differentiator in how we work and who we can serve.

Bilingual content consistently outperforms English-only content in Welsh-speaking communities across North Wales. For public sector clients, bilingual delivery is a statutory requirement under the Welsh Language Standards, not an option. For private sector clients, it’s an opportunity most of their competitors are missing.

We don’t translate as an afterthought. We develop in both languages from the start — scripts, captions, copy and strategy. Same amount of thought, applied to both audiences simultaneously.

dafydd weightman.

Dafydd Weightman — founder of Mona Digital, videographer and CAA-licensed drone operator, Anglesey.

Mona Digital was founded by Dafydd Weightman — a Welsh first-language videographer, photographer and CAA-licensed drone operator from Anglesey. Welsh is his first language and the studio is rooted in this place.

Dafydd studied Computer Science at Bangor University before developing his creative practice at Menai Science Park (M-SParc), where the idea for Mona Digital first took shape. The technical background gives the studio something most production outfits lack: a working understanding of how content is delivered, compressed and optimised across platforms — not as an afterthought, but built in from the brief.

That standard comes from 5+ years on broadcast crew with Welsh independent production companies Chwarel TV and Cwmni Da — editor, camera operator, sound recordist and drone roles on long-running productions including S4C Gogglebocs Cymru, Channel 4 The Great House Giveaway, S4C Tŷ Am Ddim and BBC The One Show, alongside drone work on BBC Sherwood, BBC Louis Theroux Interviews, ITV The Bay, Discovery Wheeler Dealers, the 2023 feature film Neeyat, and commercial campaigns for HP, Pepsi, Jabra and Liam Gallagher.

That experience set the standard Mona Digital works to: what separates content that looks professional from content that actually does something.

questions about the studio.

Common questions about working with Mona Digital. See the full FAQ for service-specific answers.

Who runs Mona Digital?

Mona Digital is run by founder Dafydd Weightman, a Welsh-speaking videographer, photographer and CAA-licensed drone operator based in Llangefni, Anglesey. Specialist collaborators are brought in for larger productions where additional crew, second cameras or post-production support are needed.

Where is Mona Digital based?

Mona Digital is based in Llangefni on the Isle of Anglesey (Ynys Môn) in North Wales. We work across Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy and the wider North Wales region, the North West of England, and travel for larger productions across the UK.

Is bilingual Welsh and English content standard?

Yes. Welsh is the founder's first language. Bilingual scripting, captions, subtitles and copy are developed in both languages simultaneously rather than translated after the fact. This is standard across all Mona Digital projects, not an add-on service.

Are you a licensed drone operator?

Yes. Dafydd Weightman holds a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID — the UK Civil Aviation Authority licences required for commercial drone operations. All drone work is fully insured and we manage all airspace permissions, site assessments and local authority notifications as part of the service.

How does a project usually work?

Every project starts with a written brief and a kickoff conversation. We agree the scope, deliverables, timelines and budget upfront. We plan the shoot, capture the footage, edit and grade the result, and deliver finished files in the formats you need. For social and marketing clients we also advise on how to use the content effectively after delivery.

What turnaround times can we expect?

Edited photography is typically delivered within 3 working days. Short-form video and social reels usually turn around in 1–2 weeks. Wedding films take 8–12 weeks. Corporate and campaign films vary from 3–6 weeks depending on scope. Rush delivery is available on request.

Do you take public sector and council work?

Yes — public sector work is a significant part of what we do. Previous clients include Ambition North Wales, Traffic Wales, Isle of Anglesey County Council, Conwy County Borough Council, Ateb Group, Menter Môn and M-SParc. All deliveries meet Welsh Language Standards bilingual requirements as standard.

Are you available for broadcast and production crew work?

Yes — Dafydd takes broadcast crew bookings (drone operator, second camera, location work) for productions filming in Wales and the North West. Get in touch via the contact page for availability and rates.
